Ministry of National Defense: the PLA will Take Resolute and Decisive Countermeasures Against “Taiwan Independence” Separatist Activities and Foreign Connivance and Support
5月17日下午，国防部新闻局副局长、国防部新闻发言人张晓刚大校就近期涉军问题发布消息。
记者：据美国媒体报道，台湾当局寻求将“驻檀香山台北经文处”所谓武官数量由4名增至10名，密切同美军印太总部协调和情报共享。另据报道，台湾与美国海军4月在西太平洋开展联合军演。请问对此有何评论？
Question: According to US media reports, the DPP authorities are seeking to increase the number of its so-called “military attachés” at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Honolulu from 4 to 10 to increase coordination and intelligence sharing with US Indo-Pacific Command. In addition, it’s reported that Taiwan’s troops conducted joint drills with the US navy in western Pacific in April. Do you have any comment on this?
张晓刚：我们注意到有关报道。民进党当局与外部势力勾连作乱，妄图“倚美谋独”“以武拒统”，必遭失败。美方应充分认清台湾问题的高度敏感性，停止与中国台湾地区进行任何形式的官方往来和军事联系，停止向“台独”分裂势力发出错误信号，切实将不支持“台独”的承诺落到实处。台湾问题是中国核心利益中的核心，中方对一切“台独”分裂活动和外部纵容支持，必将坚决果断予以回击。
Zhang Xiaogang: We have noted relevant reports. The DPP authorities colluded with the US and attempted to solicit US support to push for “Taiwan independence” and resist reunification by force. Such behaviors are doomed to fail. The US side should fully realize the high sensitivity of the Taiwan question, stop any form of official interactions and military contact with China’s Taiwan region and stop sending wrong signals to the “Taiwan independence” separatist forces, and deliver on its commitment of not supporting “Taiwan independence”. The Taiwan question is at the core of China’s core interests. The Chinese side will take resolute and decisive countermeasures against any “Taiwan independence” separatist activities and foreign connivance and support.
